On March 27, 2024, we held our 10th annual Easter egg hunt for the RISE elementary students. It's been quite a while since we were able to host our Easter egg hunt in the Yoakum City Park. In 2020, the Easter eggs were given to parents and students in a bag as they drove through to pick up their assignments during the pandemic-related school closures. In 2021 and 2022, each class had a separate Easter egg hunt on the RISE playground. In 2023, our plans for the Easter egg hunt to be held at the Yoakum City Park once again were changed due to rain, and each class held their Easter egg hunts in their classroom. You can imagine how excited everyone was to be able to gather outside at the park this year for all of the Easter fun! While we had a little rain at first, the day turned out to be beautiful!
Preparations for the hunt began with the DLSEC office staff team stuffing 730 eggs with candy and making 29 treat bags. The candy and eggs are donated by Dr. and Mrs. Jimmy Goodson each year. As is tradition, the secondary RISE students serve as hosts for the event. They arrived early to hide the eggs. Then when the elementary RISE students arrived at the park, the hunt began as each elementary student buddied up with a secondary student and staff to go find the eggs!
After the hunt, students and staff enjoyed a meal of hotdogs, Coney dogs, or Frito pie under the pavilion followed by playtime in the park.
Many DLSEC staff contributed to the success of this event for our students. We greatly appreciate their help and support! We also appreciate the Yoakum ISD Food Service Department for preparing and delivering special sack lunches for the students.
The DLSEC Easter egg hunt is held on the Wednesday before Easter each year. We're already looking forward to next year!
