On Monday, Mrs. Hanson's class engaged in a culturally rich lesson about Cinco de Mayo. Students began by watching an educational video that explained the historical significance of the holiday. We followed this with a read-aloud focused on Cinco de Mayo traditions and history, reinforcing key comprehension and listening skills.
Next, students participated in an engaging dance activity to a Cinco de Mayo-themed song, promoting kinesthetic learning and cultural appreciation. They also viewed a visual presentation that highlighted how Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in various parts of Mexico and the United States.
To reinforce understanding and creativity, students completed a hands-on digital activity by building a taco on Google Slides, identifying ingredients and sequencing steps.
To conclude the lesson, Mrs. Hanson demonstrated how to cook taco meat then students created their own tacos using real ingredients and enjoyed them together, incorporating a sensory and practical learning experience. The students really enjoyed the lesson and the tacos!
