As part of the unit, Changes All Around Us, RISE high school students made Thunderstorm Pie. The cafeteria staff was involved to make this happen as part of the unit along with the study of a healthy plate. The ground beef was the ground, we substituted broccoli for the peas for the trees, the carrots were the people, the potatoes were the clouds, and shredded cheese served as the lightening. Students enjoyed making a delicious healthy plate. All students enjoyed their meal and the help from smiling YHS cafeteria staff.

April is Autism Awareness and Acceptance month! During the month of April our staff and students wear shirts to show our support and help spread acceptance and awareness about autism. Every year Meagan Moore and the Shiner Lions Club design and sell Autism Awareness and Acceptance shirts in our area. The proceeds from these shirts are donated to DLSEC for our annual special events like prom and Reel Fishing. This year's shirt, car decals, and stickers were designed by Meagan's son and DLSEC student, John Moore.
