Do you have extra plastic bags accumulating at your house? We can help you repurpose them! Just drop off extra bags at RISE elementary building at Yoakum Intermediate School or at DLSEC office at 402 Hubbard Street, and we will put them to good use!

Making vampire teeth pizza was a Halloween hit with RISE students today!

Students enjoyed some fall fun in Mrs. Hebert's class learning art and science together. Students used warm water and baking soda to outline the pictures and dip their hands. After that completely dried, "paint" was made with a mixture of turmeric and hand sanitizer. Students used sponge brushes to paint with the yellow turmeric and sanitizer mixture. Through the magic of science, when the yellow turmeric-sanitizer mixture touched the dried baking soda-water mixture, the baking soda-water areas change to a red color.

Mrs. Hebert's class took a bite out of learning while studying the sense of taste!

As we kick off the 2023-2024 school year, here is a look back at some of the fun we had last year! (Special thanks to Amber Arceneaux for compiling this video reflection for us.)

As we all start the new school year, it's important for staff members to do as much as we can to keep ourselves healthy so we can be here for our students. Here are some tips from Nurse Supervisor Amy Whaley, BSN, RN, to help us all boost our immune systems to stay healthy through whatever may come our way. The habit tracker may be a useful tool to print and track your healthy immune-boosting habits.
Have a healthy Thursday!

DLSEC office will be closed July 3-4, 2023. Happy Independence Day!

Yoakum Shape Shop (YSS) is one of our many amazing business partners for our InVEST program. InVEST stands for Individual Vocational Education and Skils Training. Students in the InVEST program spend time volunteering at businesses throughout our service area to try out different job opportunities, to develop skills in multiple areas, and to explore their vocational interests. In return, our business partners benefit from our students helping with work tasks.
Today, Yoakum Shape Shop owner, Kristy Svec said she will miss our two graduating seniors, Slade and Jeremiah, who have volunteered at YSS. Fortunately, Lathen has one more year before he graduates.
The InVEST students and staff are very appreciative of the business partners who welcome the opportunity to have our students volunteer in their businesses. In addition to Yoakum Shape Shop, this year's business partners include:
--Embroidery Express
--H & H Bakery & CafƩ
--Moulton Farmers' Co-op
--Shinerville Coffeehouse
--Soehnge's Do-It Center
--Yoakum General Store
We would also like to recognize the InVEST staff who have worked hard this semester to teach, support, and transport our students in this program--Rose Finch and Emily Perez.

Today is National Day of Prayer. DLSEC staff were appreciative to each receive a snack bag and note from Austin Street Baptist Church today.
